Hey Everyone!!
I'm BACK!!!!!!!!
I had an absolutely fabulous time in NOLA, N'awlins, The Big Easy.....
My Sweetcheeks (real name: Alan. but sweetcheeks is so much more fun to say....especially if you throw in an accent that I image men in the 40's had when they talked to their secretaries. Thank heavens for sexual harassment laws....but I digress) and I had many adventures (most of which involved food) and we spent some long overdue quality time with his family (who are just wonderful)!
Check out my INSTAGRAM feed for a synopsis of all of our adventures!
Sooooo, I know you expected this post to be the film pictures that I took in New Orleans (because that is what I told you to expect....); however, those pictures have not been developed yet - oops :-/
BUT I do have something that I hope you will find interesting.
The MORNING after we got home from New Orleans, Sweetcheeks suggested that we make the three hour drive to my hometown in Soda Springs, ID (a.k.a. heaven on earth).
He thought it would be a good place to relax after our
crazy trip to LA (EVERY time I see this I think of the city, not the state.....it's very confusing)!
I must admit, getting in the car for another day of travel did NOT sound fun.
Then I realized that with Sweetcheeks, some music, and Soda Springs as our destination it would be the PERFECT trip!
We hopped in the car and off we went.
The drive flew by with some car dance parties and good conversation.
Then we arrived in glorious Soda (as soon as you say "Soda" picture the heavens opening and angels singing)!
After greeting my lovely parents I discover
that my uncle, Clayton, will be coming later that day to shoe the horses.
Now, if you don't know what "shoeing" horses is that's ok....you're about to find out :)
So I thought to myself, "Self, this could be a pretty cool 'editorial' piece. You should photography this experience".
So that's what I did.
To be honest, when I started shooting these pictures I had no idea what this was going to turn into.
As I kept shooting I kinda felt like some sort of editorial photographer doing a piece on "real" cowboys!
Having Clayton come shoe horses (and my father helping) is a prominent memory of my childhood.
I always loved watching.
I remember thinking, "Man, these guys work so hard. This is what real men do."
As I grew up I realized that my father and his brothers are a rare breed. They just don't make'um like that anymore. These three men work harder that anyone I have ever met in my entire life. They take pride in their work. They take pride in working for every single thing they have. They don't ask for, or expect, handouts. They are men that I respect.
So I dedicate this post and these pictures to all of the true hardworking cowboys in the world.
Without you, nothing would get done.
So I proudly present to you my uncle and my father in their element.
Shoot ya Later :)
