About

Hey Gang! I am so happy you're here at Humbletakes.

Click around; make yourself at home.

Let's get to know each other! I have always loved photography but thought I had to have a "real" job. I went to college to pursue adulthood and came out the other side looking like a grownup but had no actual idea what I wanted to do with my life. I began working as an analytical chemist (trying to adult and all that) while also interning for a well-known photographer in my city. My parents bought me my first DSLR as a college graduation present so whenever I wasn't working I was figuring out the ins and outs of my new toy.

During my two-year internship, I gained invaluable experience with shooting and editing techniques. I was always taking photos of my family and offered to shoot a friend’s wedding. I began booking more photography clients and spending as many waking hours as possible doing photography work while still working my 9-5. Finally in 2012, after a lot of positive self-talk/affirmations and my mom telling me, "Melissa, you can do anything! You can do ALL the things!" (aren't moms great?!), Humbletakes was born.

My passion for photography is two-fold.

I absolutely LOVE shooting young families. Grabbing a kiddo's real giggle makes my heart soar! I specialize in making family photos as easy and fun as possible with my Mini-Mini Session set-up which you can read all about HERE.

I also LOVE helping small female owned businesses succeed and grow their business through beautiful and compelling personal branding photography. You can read more about that HERE.

Welp, now that you know all about my passion for photography I guess there are only a few more things you should know. I am the mama of three and the wife of one (the one). My diet consists mostly of fountain Diet Coke and nachos. I love the rain and hate the sun. I have a collection of my great-grandfather's cameras that I think are absolutely stunning. I'm allergic to most animals, penicillin, Spring, and intolerance.

I am so happy you stopped by and I can't wait to work with you!
